Base64 for text and binary data

Base64 represents bytes using printable characters and is useful for attachments, data URLs and technical values. It is encoding, not encryption: anyone can recover the original bytes.

Base64URL replaces + and / with - and _, and usually omits padding. This variant is convenient for URLs and JWT. File mode preserves bytes without text conversion.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Base64 encrypt data?+

No. Base64 is a reversible byte representation, not information protection. Do not use it instead of encryption or password hashing.

Why does non-ASCII text need UTF-8?+

Base64 describes bytes rather than characters. UTF-8 preserves Cyrillic, emoji and other Unicode characters consistently during round trips.

Can I decode several values?+

Yes. Enable line-by-line mode to decode every non-empty input line as a separate Base64 value.
